Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release
HARLINGEN - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings fell to the Amarillo Dillas 2-0 in seven innings in game one of a doubleheader Wednesday at Harlingen Field.
The Dillas (24-15) got on the board against David Cross (1-5) in the top of the third. After Jermel Lomack and Adam De La Garza reached on back-to-back errors to start the inning, Joaquin Rodriguez hit an RBI-single to make it 1-0. Rodriguez rounded first too far and was thrown out during the run down. De La Garza was then caught too far off third base for the double play.
That was enough to make a winner of Ronald Lowe (4-2), who pitched a complete game shutout, striking out four WhiteWings (15-22) while scattering four hits.
With two outs in the top of the sixth, Alberto Cruz, TJ Warren and Brian Bueno hit consecutive singles on 1-2 counts to make it 2-0 Dillas.
Cross pitched a complete game as well, giving up eight hits and three walks while striking out three.
The WhiteWings and Dillas play games two of this doubleheader in about 30 minutes. Right-hander Marcel Prado (0-1) is expected to face left-hander Chris Ingoglia (1-2).
