San Angelo Colts News Release

Edinburg right-fielder Ambiorix (AM-BEE-OR-AXE) Concepcion went 2-5 with a three-run homer and RBI double, along with two runs scored, in leading the Roadrunners to a 9-4 victory over the San Angelo Colts on Wednesday night from Foster Field.

The league-leading Roadrunners basically put the game away with a four-run fourth inning.

Second baseman Wilmer Pino got the scoring started with a solo-homerun, his third of the year, to give Edinburg a 1-0 lead.

Three batters later, Concepcion uncorked his three-run blast (6) to extend the Edinburg lead to four.

The Colts got on the board in the bottom of the fourth on a fielding error, before Edinburg would respond with an unearned run of their own in the fifth on a San Angelo throwing error to make the score 5-1.

Butch Ballez smacked his third homer of the season, a solo shot, in the bottom of the fifth to cut the deficit to three before Pino picked up his second RBI of the game on a sac-fly in the seventh to make the score 6-2 Edinburg.

San Angelo drew to within three again on an RBI single by Ballez in the bottom of the seventh, but that was as close as the Colts would get as Edinburg would put the game away with two in the eighth and one in the ninth to build a 9-3 lead.

Concepcion doubled in a run and centerfielder Vincent Blue singled in another in the two-run eighth, while shortstop Felix Molina doubled in the lone run in the ninth.

The Colts got one more run in the bottom of the ninth on a hit-by-pitch to catcher Mikey Horn, and had the bases loaded with no one out.

But after Ballez popped out, leftfielder David Cardona grounded into a 6-4-3 double play to end the game.

In addition to Concepcion's work, Pino went 1-4 with a homer and sac-fly, while third baseman Wilson Batista went 2-5 with two runs, and a stolen base.

Designated hitter Melvin Perez also went 2-3 with two runs to aid the Roadrunner attack and Molina chipped in by going 2-5 with two runs scored.

For the Colts, Ballez led the way by going 2-4 with a homer and two RBI.

First baseman Josh Collazo continued his good work by going 2-3 with two singles.

Starter Mike Reeves (4-2) got the win for Edinburg by going six strong innings, allowing two hits and one earned run while striking out six.

Ezekiel Astacio (3-3) suffered the loss for San Angelo after allowing 10 hits and eight runs in seven innings.

He also struck out six.

The Colts and Roadrunners will wrap-up their four-game series Thursday night beginning at 7:05.

Chandler Barnard (2-1, 6.14 ERA) will go for San Angelo against Mark DiBernardo (4-1, 3.44 ERA) of Edinburg.

Thursday is also Thirsty Thursday presented by Budweiser as all draft beers will be only $1 throughout the evening.

The game can be heard on 1260 KKSA with the Kemps' Pre-Game Show getting the broadcast started at 6:50.
