Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

With a 5-3 lead entering the bottom of the seventh inning, WhiteWings relief pitching allowed a total of nine runs in the last two innings as the 'Wings fell to the San Angelo Colts by a final of 12-6.

The loss is the WhiteWings' third in a row as they fall to 12-7 on the year.

Entering the bottom of the seventh with a 5-3 lead, pitcher Renee Cortez allowed a leadoff homerun to Ronnie Gaines, his eighth of the year. Two batters later, Daryl Jones blasted a two-run homerun over the fence to give the Colts the lead at 6-5.

From there, the Colts poured on the runs. Two more runs would be charged to Cortez while Elvis Hernandez allowed four runs on his watch.

The WhiteWings raced out to an early 2-0 lead after three innings of play thanks to solo homeruns off the bats of Francisco Santana and Antonio DeJesus.

The Colts would battle back in the bottom of the third to take a 3-2 lead as Jones hit a three-run homerun off of starter Chase Davenport. Those would be the only runs Davenport allowed all game.

The 'Wings would retake a 5-3 lead, scoring consecutive runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings thanks to two RBI's from Santana and an infield single from Jonathan Fernandez.

The lead wouldn't last long as the relief pitching from the WhiteWings would give up nine total runs -eight earned - as they dropped their third straight, losing 12-6.

Renee Cortez (0-1 22.50 ERA) gets charged with the loss.

Closing out the series tomorrow is Alexander Concepcion (2-1 4.70 ERA) as he'll go head-to-head against Gorman Romero (2-0 3.27 ERA).
