Calgary Vipers News Release

Behind Canadian rookie Shawn Hetherington the Calgary Vipers (9-7) defeated the Chico Outlaws (5-10) 6-2 at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta in the first game of a double-header featuring two seven inning contests. The rookie right hander (1-0) was excellent in coming out of the bullpen in the first inning and tossing four and two third scoreless frames while allowing three hits. At the plate Calgary belted out three home runs and two by Drew Miller himself for their sixth straight victory. Miller had a huge game at the plate going two-for-two with four runs batted in and now has six long balls on the year.

Claudio Galva (4) recorded the save by coming out of the bullpen for the final two outs of the game while Jason Mackintosh (1-1) received the loss for Chico.

Chico got onto the scoreboard in the top of the first inning as Bobby Hill hit a solo home run, Brian McFall was hit by a pitch, Chris Lubanski walked, a wild pitch advanced McFall to third base, and Al Quintana collected a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 advantage.

Calgary answered in the bottom of the frame when Jonny Kaplan reached on a fielding error, Bryan Burke walked, the two runners executed a double steal, and both Wilver Perez and Drew Miller collected sacrifice flies for a 2-2 tie.

The Vipers took the lead in the second as Jimmy Rohan smacked his first home run of the season for a 3-2 advantage.

With two out in the third inning Calgary scored again when Perez singled and Miller hit his fifth home run of the season for a 5-2 lead.

Miller was back at it in the sixth frame for the Snakes with his second home run of the game for a 6-2 advantage.

Game 2 of this double-header will take place in approximately 30 minutes.

Calgary welcomes Kevin Costner's first place Lake County Fielders to Foothills Stadium on Tuesday June 14th at 6:30.
