Edmonton Capitals News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Capitals earned their third walk-off win of the season on Sunday at TELUS Field as they scored in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Lake County Fielders 4-3.

Shortstop Enrique Cruz hit a double off the wall in the bottom of the ninth inning to score second baseman Matt Rogelstad and hand the Caps their second straight win and third in four games against the Fielders. The Caps (9-6) now trail the Fielders (11-5) by just 1.5 games in the North Division standings.

The Caps had a 2-1 lead heading into the eighth inning only to surrender two runs to give the Fielders a 3-2 advantage. But it was a short-lived lead as the Caps scored the tying run on a Steve Brown RBI single in the bottom of the inning. Caps pitcher David Davidson then stepped in and blanked the Fielders in the top of the ninth, setting the stage for the walk-off heroics in the bottom half.

Brown had a sleepless 24 hours prior to Sunday's game, as he flew all the way from his home in Columbia to join the Caps. The centre fielder is back for his second season with the team, though immigration delays forced him to miss the first two weeks of the season. He didn't waste any time helping out the Caps, though, with his game-tying hit in the eighth inning.

"I've had some long flights this weekend and just got to Edmonton this morning, so I'm really tired, but it was great to get back in the lineup today and help the team right away," Brown said. "I love playing here and I'm really happy to be back finally."

Edmonton's starting pitcher Alexander Francisco threw the first six innings and managed to keep the Fielders batters at bay by only allowing one run and racking up six strikeouts, while Davidson picked up the win with his sold ninth inning.

Sunday's game was another Dental Choice Family Pack Sunday presented by 630 CHED, as fans could purchase four tickets, four hot dogs and four Pepsi products for the value price of just $52. There was also a post-game autograph session with the full Caps team. The Caps and Fielders wrap up the series Monday with a 7 p.m. game.

The Capitals are the city's most affordable entertainment option in the summer featuring Edmonton's largest patio! Season seats start at less than $9 per seat. Individual game tickets start at $10 in advance and can be purchased at the Capitals Box Office (10233 - 96 Ave) during regular business hours Monday through Friday, at any Ticketmaster location, online at capsbaseball.ca or via phone at 780-414-GOAL (4625).
