
Whitecaps Sweep Series with 4-1 Win

Lake County Captains News Release
(Comstock Park, MI)- Wynton Bernard tripled to left center field which allowed Jose Zambrano to score and West Michigan beat Lake County 4-1. The triple concluded the scoring. With the win, West Michigan swept the three game set from the Captains. The Captains have now dropped four straight ballgames.
Lake County (9-24) got the early lead in the top of the first inning. With two outs, Eric Haase singled to keep the Captains alive. After a walk and an error, Kubitza tossed a wild pitch and Haase scored to make the score 1-0 Captains.
West Michigan (19-13) tied the score in the bottom of the second inning. Ben Verlander singled and then moved to third on a two base error. Tyler Gibson singled to right field, and Verlander scored. The score was even at 1-1.
The score became 3-1 in favor of West Michigan in the bottom of the fifth inning. With two outs and one runner at second base Wynton Bernard walked. Javier Betancourt then hit a ball back off of Jordan Milbrath for a single. Milbrath fielded the ball and fell down, while falling he tried to flip it to first base and the ball went down the right field line. Two runs scored, and the score was 3-1 headed to the sixth.
RHP Jordan Milbrath (1-2) started for the Captains, and took the loss. Milbrath pitched six innings and allowed five hits three unearned runs, two walks and he struck out three. Caleb Hamrick pitched two innings and allowed the run in the seventh. The run was earned on three hits, one walk and two strikeouts.
RHP Austin Kubitza (4-0) started for West Michigan and earned the win. Kubitza pitched six innings and allowed five hits. He allowed one unearned run, two walks and seven strikeouts. The rest of the bullpen for West Michigan held the Captains off of the scoreboard on Wednesday Afternoon.
Thursday is Thirsty Thursday, presented by Labatt Blue and ESPN 850 WKNR and features a .25-cent Labatt Blue Happy Hour from 5:30 PM until game time at 6:30 PM, and half-price draft beer and fountain soda specials until 9 PM.
As part of Thirsty Thursday, the Captains will also offer an all-you-can eat wing and pizza buffet outside the Corona Castaways Bar for only $13.
Thursday is also Date Night, which provides couples with the opportunity to purchase two tickets to The Officer's Club Suite and enjoy a buffet dinner, a $56 value, for only $34.
The Captains will return home to Eastlake, Ohio for a quick three game home stand. The Captains will play the Bowling Green Hot Rods the Class A Affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. In game one, The Captains will start RHP Adam Plutko (1-0, 4.28) and Bowling Green has ot announced who will be pitching for them. First Pitch is at 6:30 PM from Classic Park.
