Vancouver Whitecaps FC News Release

VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC women (1W-2L-4D) aim for their second win of the season when they host Colorado Force FC (1W-1L-4D) on Sunday afternoon.

Mercer Stadium in New Westminster, BC, will be the venue for the Whitecaps latest USL W-League clash, with Sunday's game part of the Whitecaps Women's Soccer Series. The 'Caps have partnered with the Girls Metro Soccer League to bring the women's final three home matches of 2009 into communities on the Lower Mainland.

With those three home matches coming in the space of a week, Alan Koch's side need victories in order to keep their hopes of making the playoffs alive. After starting the season with four straight draws, the Whitecaps recorded a win and two defeats during their recent three-game road trip to Southern California. Their latest match came on Tuesday night, with Vancouver falling to a 2-1 defeat at defending W-League champions Pali Blues.

The 'Caps will hope their fine record against the Force can start a run of results that lead them into the postseason. Vancouver have an all-time record of 15 wins, no defeats, and one draw versus the Force, with Sunday's match being the 17th meeting between the two clubs since the 2001 season. In their 16 previous matches, the Whitecaps have outscored the Force 60 to five.

Last season, the Whitecaps won both games against Colorado. On May 30, a goal by Jonelle Filigno gave Vancouver a 1-0 away victory. The Whitecaps followed that up with a 3-1 win over the Force at Swangard Stadium on July 13. Tiffeny Milbrett contributed to the home victory with two goals and an assist.
