West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
BOWLING GREEN, KY - The West Michigan Whitecaps road trip ended with their fourth straight loss on Sunday by a score of 7-2 to the Bowling Green Hot Rods at Bowling Green Ballpark.
The Whitecaps finish their stretch away from home 2-8 and were outscored 29-5 in the three-game series with Bowling Green. The loss also sends them to the .500 mark at 28-28 for the first time since they were 1-1 on April 7 to begin the year.
Bowling Green opened the scoring by taking advantage of a throwing error by "Caps catcher Joey Morgan on Vidal Brujan's attempt to steal third to give the Hot Rods a 1-0 lead. Dylan Rosa slammed his third home run of the road trip in the fourth, a two-run shot to give West Michigan their only lead of Sunday at 2-1. "Caps starting pitcher Matt Manning allowed four runs on six base hits in the fifth inning - almost as many as he had allowed in any of his eight starts throughout the season. Jim Haley launched his third home run of the season to highlight the frame. A pair of errors by Colby Bortles allowed two more Hot Rods runs to score in the sixth, sending the "Caps to their ninth loss in their last 11 games.
Manning (1-3) gets the loss, while Tobias Myers (6-3) allowed two runs in six frames to earn his fourth win. The Whitecaps record falls to 28-28 while the Hot Rods improve to 36-19. Rosa led the "Caps offense with a 2-for-4 performance in the loss.
