Hunter Greene Earns First Pro Win as Dragons Top Lansing, 11-8

Dayton, Ohio - Dayton's Hunter Green recorded his first career victory as the Dragons belted three home runs on the way to an 11-8 win over the Lansing Lugnuts on Sunday afternoon. The Dragons won two-out-of-three in the series with the Lugnuts and closed out their six-game homestand with a 4-2 record. A crowd of 7,828 attended the game at Fifth Third Field.

Greene, the Cincinnati Reds first round draft pick in 2017, did not allow a hit until the fifth inning and left the game with an 11-1 lead. He worked five innings, giving up one run on two hits with one walk and eight strikeouts. Greene has allowed one run or less in four of his last five starts.

The Dragons built an 8-0 lead over the first two innings, scoring three runs in the first and five in the second. Andy Sugilio and Michael Beltre connected on back-to-back home runs in the first, and Stuart Fairchild hit a two-run homer in the second. The Dragons collected seven hits over the first two innings.

Lansing scored one run in the top of the fifth before the Dragons responded with three runs in the bottom of the same inning to build their lead to 11-1.

Lansing battled back, scoring one run in the sixth, four in the seventh, and two in the eighth to make it 11-8. Dragons reliever John Ghyzel entered the game to start the ninth inning and pitched a perfect frame, striking out two, to earn his league-leading 11th save of the year.

The Dragons finished the day with 11 hits. Fairchild and John Sansone each had two. The Dragons had seven extra base hits including doubles by Jeter Downs, Jose Garcia, and Montrell Marshall and a triple by Miles Gordon along with the three home runs.

Notes: The Dragons improved their home record to 22-10. The franchise record for most home wins in a half is 25. The Dragons have four home games remaining in the first half.

In the Standings: The Dragons are 29-26 on the year. They are in third place, seven games behind first place Bowling Green in the Midwest League East Division. They are six games behind Lansing, the wildcard leader, with 13 to play in the first half.

Up Next: The Dragons do not play on Monday. They will open a three-game series at Lake County on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. Their next home game is Friday, June 8 vs. Bowling Green.
