Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - The seesaw battle atop the Western Division continued as the Clinton LumberKings fell to the Peoria Chiefs 7-1 on Sunday afternoon at Ashford University Field to fall back out of first place. Clinton (31-25) tallied just two hits in the game to register their fewest hits in a game this season.

The Chiefs (32-25) pushed across the game's first runs in the top of the second inning against LumberKings starter Ray Kerr. In a rally that started with two out in the inning, Julio Rodriguez doubled and was followed by JR Davis who reached on an error. Matt Fielder then drove home the pair with a two-run single to center that put Peoria on top for good.

Boasting the Midwest League's highest fielding percentage coming into the game, the LumberKings committed six errors to set a new season high for defensive miscues.

Three more errors by LumberKings infielders in the top of the fourth pushed across the Chiefs third run of the game.

Kerr (1-5) took the loss for Clinton for a four-inning outing in which he allowed three runs, none earned, on four hits while walking none and striking out four.

The LumberKings only run of the game came across in the bottom of the third inning on a Billy Cooke home run to left, his first of the year.

Chiefs starter Alex Fagalde (1-1) was very sharp over his 7.2 innings of work and earned his first win of the season. He allowed just one run on two hits while walking one and striking out a season high 10 batters.

The Chiefs then piled on in the latter frames to add four more runs against LumberKings relievers and coast to a 7-1 win. The loss drops Clinton out of first in the Western Division and ends their streak of three consecutive series wins.

The LumberKings will take tomorrow off before opening a three-game series with the Burlington Bees in Burlington starting on Tuesday night. Clinton will throw left-handed pitcher Oliver Jaskie (1-5, 6.40) while Burlington will turn to righty Luis Madero (2-3, 2.97). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM. Fans looking to listen to the game can hear Erik Oas on the call on 100.3 FM WCCI and online at lumberkings.com via the tune in radio ap at 6:15 PM with the pregame show.
