
Whitecaps FC Transfer Midfielder Simon Colyn to Jong PSV

VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Wednesday that the club has transferred attacking midfielder Simon Colyn to Dutch club PSV Eindhoven, where he played on loan with the reserve side Jong PSV during the 2021-2022 season.
Colyn becomes the seventh academy product transferred to a European club.
"Simon progressed well on his loan to Jong PSV and everyone agreed he is in the right place for him to continue his development. Our agreement with PSV includes the potential to receive future compensation," said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC sporting director. "We wish Simon all the very best."
Colyn, 20, spent last season on loan with the Dutch side, recording five goals as well as three assists in 17 starts and 28 appearances in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie.
A dual citizen of Canada and the Netherlands, Colyn spent 2020-21 season on loan with the youth side of Italian club SPAL, where he started seven of his 15 appearances and tallied a goal along with an assist across all competitions.
The native of Langley, BC signed with the 'Caps first team in April 2018 after coming through the Whitecaps FC BMO Academy System, making one appearance. As a member of the Whitecaps FC academy, Colyn split time between the U-17 and U-19 sides, registering 25 goals in 38 starts and 44 appearances from 2017 to 2019.
In his youth, the midfielder developed with Langley United YSA and Surrey United SC before joining the club's academy in 2016.
Internationally, Colyn has represented Canada at the 2019 CONCACAF U-17 Championship, tallying a goal in four starts and five appearances throughout the tournament.
