
Whitecaps FC Sign Midfielder Vasco Fry and Forward Levonte Johnson to MLS Short-Term Agreements

VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Wednesday that the club has signed Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2) midfielder Vasco Fry and forward Levonte Johnson to MLS short-term agreements for Wednesday's Concacaf Champions League match against Real C.D. España and Saturday's MLS match against Los Angeles Galaxy.

Fry, 21, started 21 of his 23 appearances for WFC2 in MLS NEXT Pro last season, recording a goal as well as three assists.
Prior to joining WFC2, the native of Lima, Peru competed with the Whitecaps FC BMO MLS Academy in the United States Soccer Development Academy league from 2018 to 2021 and spent time playing with the Whitecaps FC U-23 team from 2019 through 2021.
A dual Peruvian-Canadian citizen, Fry originally joined Whitecaps FC in August 2018 after previously playing with the youth teams of Peruvian first division side Sporting Cristal.
Internationally, the midfielder has represented Peru at the youth level, earning two appearances with the U-17 national team.
Fry also spent preseason with the Whitecaps FC first team, making four appearances.
This marks the second time Fry has signed an MLS short-term agreement with the first team, as he previously signed a short-term agreement for the club's road match against Austin FC last season on April 23, 2022.

Johnson, 23, was selected 29th overall by Whitecaps FC in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft from Syracuse University and spent the entire preseason with the 'Caps first team, making four appearances. Last month, the forward signed with WFC2 and started the team's preseason win over Tacoma Defiance on March 10.
The native of Brampton, Ontario scored 11 goals and added six assists across 25 starts for Syracuse this past season, helping the side win the NCAA Division I National Championship. Johnson was one of three MAC Hermann Trophy finalists and was named to the United Soccer Coaches First Team All-America, All-ACC First Team, and All-South Region First Team.
Prior to joining Syracuse, Johnson recorded nine goals, eight assists in 20 starts and 22 appearances with Seattle University in 2021. Johnston previously spent time with Salt Lake Community College in his sophomore year, starting 16 of his 18 appearances and recording 11 goals as well as 10 assists. In his freshman year, the forward added 10 goals and four assists for Eastern Florida State College.
In addition, Johnson also played for Portland Timbers U-23 in USL League Two in 2021, tallying a goal in seven appearances.
Fry and Johnson become the first WFC2 players to sign short-term MLS agreements with the first team this season. In 2022, the 'Caps led the league in call-ups from MLS NEXT Pro.
