Chicago Fire FC News Release
CHICAGO - Chicago Fire FC today announced that the Club has acquired 21-year-old defender Alonso Aceves on loan from Liga MX side C.F. Pachuca through the 2023 season with an option to purchase. Aceves will occupy a U-22 initiative slot and an international roster position with the Fire. Per Club and MLS policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"As we continue to strengthen our 2023 roster, it was important that we used our final 2023 U-22 initiative slot for a player who has experience as a starter in a highly competitive league," said Chicago Fire FC Sporting Director Georg Heitz. "Alonso was an important player for Pachuca during their run to the LIGA MX final in 2022 and has already gained experience playing overseas with his recent move to Spain. We expect him to compete for first-team minutes and add more depth and quality to our backline."
Aceves joins Chicago from Pachuca after spending the 2022-23 season with Spanish LaLiga2 side Real Oviedo on loan. He logged 824 minutes played during his time in Spain, appearing in 10 league matches and one Copa del Rey fixture against Real Sociedad Gimnástica Torrelavega. A member of Pachuca's Academy since 2016, Aceves originally made his professional debut as a 19-year-old on Nov. 7, 2020, entering the match as a 69th-minute sub against Necaxa during the Liga MX Apertura 2020-21 season.
He became a fixture on the squad during the 2021-22 Liga MX Clausura season, registering 1,899 minutes across all competitions after featuring in 16 regular season games and in six Liguilla Clausura matches. Aceves narrowly missed facing off against current Chicago Fire FC teammate Jairo Torres in the 2021-22 Liga MX Clausura final after Torres joined Chicago following the conclusion of the Liga MX regular season. Aceves appeared in both legs of the final, registering the assist on Pachuca's lone goal of the series.
At the international level, Aceves featured in two Mexico U-21 matches at the 2022 Maurice Revello Tournament in France.
With this acquisition, Aceves joins Federico Navarro and Georgios Koutsias as the third player on the 2023 Chicago Fire FC roster to be signed under the U-22 initiative.
