Whitecaps FC Sign 2018 MLS SuperDraft Pick Justin Fiddes

VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Thursday that the club has signed defender Justin Fiddes to an MLS contract for 2018 with options through 2021. The former University of Washington Huskies fullback was selected 17th overall in the first round of the 2018 MLS SuperDraft last January.

Received USC Second Team All Far-West Region and Honorable Mention All-Pacific 12 Conference honours in 2017

Spent time with the US Soccer Residency Program in Bradenton, Florida in 2011

Finished first in the speed test by running the 30-metre dash in 3.84 seconds at the 2018 adidas MLS Player Combine

"Justin is a young, fast, and athletic fullback who has shown promise in preseason camp with the team," said head coach Carl Robinson. "He's got a great attitude and has the willingness to learn and work, and it will be good to officially add him to the mix and challenge the other guys."

Fiddes, 22, made two starts and three appearances in the preseason for Whitecaps FC, joining the team in camp in Hawaii and California.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Fiddes started 62 of his 70 appearances in his four years with the University of Washington Huskies, recording 10 assists and adding one goal.

The 5-foot-11 fullback received United Soccer Coaches (USC) Second Team All Far-West Region, and Honorable Mention All-Pacific 12 Conference honours following his senior season, when he was one of only two players to start all 20 of the Huskies' matches, and was second on the team in minutes played.

Fiddes, who grew up in San Diego, California, starred at Cathedral Catholic High School and represented the San Diego Surf Soccer Club at the US Soccer Development Academy. Fiddes also spent time with the US Soccer Residency Program in Bradenton, Florida in 2011.
