New England Revolution News Release
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution have acquired midfielder Luis Alberto Caicedo Mosquera on loan from Colombian side Cortuluá for the 2018 MLS season with a transfer option for the 2019 season. Caicedo will be added to the active roster using Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P-1 Visa. He will occupy an international roster slot.
"We are pleased to add a young player in Luis who displays significant potential at the midfield position," Revolution General Manager Michael Burns said. "We believe Luis will help strengthen our central midfield and add to the competition at the position."
Caicedo, 21, joins the Revolution from Corporación Club Deportivo Tuluá, more commonly referred to as Cortuluá, of Colombia's second tier CategorÃa Primera B. While at Cortuluá from 2015-18, Caicedo made 70 league appearances, including 67 starts, and registered three goals over more than three seasons in Colombia's top two tiers of professional soccer.
The Colombian midfielder set a personal best with 35 league starts in the 2016 campaign with Cortuluá, and followed up that campaign with another 30 starts in the 2017 season. Caicedo added three starts for the club in the early proceedings of the 2018 season. He also totaled three career appearances and two starts in Copa Colombia, the nation's annual domestic tournament, in 2016 and 2017.
Prior to joining Cortuluá, Caicedo played for Portugal's Sporting CP II, where he made one appearance in Portugal's second division during the 2014-15 season.
