West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - Will Rhymes delivered two RBI singles, each of which gave the Whitecaps the lead in a 5-3 victory at Cedar Rapids. It was the third West Michigan win in a row.
After falling into a 2-0 deficit in the third, the Whitecaps tied the game with two runs in the next half inning. Cameron Maybin drove in Matt Joyce with an RBI triple. Maybin then scored on a single by Ryan Roberson to knot the game, 2-2.
In the fifth, Rhymes delivered a two-out single to center plated Mike Hollimon for a 3-2 West Michigan advantage.
After Cedar Rapids tied the game on a single by Brad Coon in the bottom of the fifth, Rhymes came through a second time with an RBI hit to center in the seventh. That gave the Whitecaps the lead for good, 4-3. Rhymes came home on a double by the next batter, Matt Joyce.
Dusty Ryan scored the first run of the seventh inning after he stole second by avoiding a rundown on a pitch-out. Ryan also made a catch in foul ground just before he fell into the backstop netting in the fourth inning.
Burke Badenhop picked up his first win as a Whitecap. He pitched six innings and allowed all three Kernels runs, but struck out six and did not give up a walk.
Anthony Claggett pitched two innings of scoreless relief. He has appeared in five games, but is yet to allow a run. Orlando Perdomo notched his fifth save.
Whitecaps pitchers retired the last 13 Kernels batters of the game. Cedar Rapids stranded only two runners on base.
