
Wheat Kings Recognized by WHL

Calgary, AB. - The Brandon Wheat Kings were well represented in Calgary today as the Western Hockey League unveiled its 2015-16 All Stars and Awards Finalists.
Leading the way was Russian born defenceman Ivan Provorov. The Philadelphia Flyers first round draft choice was named to the Eastern Conference First All Star Team and for the second year in a row, he's been named Defenceman of the Year in the Conference.
Provorov, who has now led Russia to back to back Silver Medals at the World Junior Hockey Championships, led all WHL defenceman in scoring this season with 21 goals and 73 points. As well, he led the League with a plus / minus ranking of +64, equaling a franchise record.
He will now face off against Joe Hicketts of the Victoria Royals.

This year's League Award winners will be announced in Calgary on Wednesday, May 4th.
Today's announcement comes on the eve of the WHL Playoffs that begin Thursday night at Westman Communications Group Place with the Wheat Kings playing host to the Edmonton Oil Kings.
Brandon captured the Eastern Conference regular season Title this season with an impressive record of 48-18-4-2, marking the second straight year that the Wheat Kings have won the Eastern pennant.
Meanwhile two Brandon players were selected to the Second All Star Team - forwards Jayce Hawryluk and Nolan Patrick.
The two became the first Wheat King duo to finish with over 100 points since Mike Leclerc and Peter Schaefer did it in 1996.
Hawryluk led the club in scoring with 106 points, including 47 goals while Patrick had 41 goals and 102 points.
