Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, MB. - Over thirty players are expected to descend on Westoba Place this afternoon as the Brandon Wheat Kings kick off their annual Spring Prospects Camp.
All of the participating players, who were born in 2002, 2003 or 2004, were drafted or listed by the Western Hockey League club.
Following registration Friday afternoon, teams will practice. More practices will be held on Saturday morning, with camp concluding Sunday morning at 9am with a special Prospect Intrasquad Game.
The camp is designed to introduce the organization to its prospects and their familieis.
"It's really more about giving information to the families about our organization and how we do things and what we believe in," says Wheat Kings' director of scouting Darren Ritchie. "We just want the guys ieo come here and be relaxed and be themselves on the ice."
"They're not here trying to make our team this week. They're just here to learn about our organization," he added.
Among the 31 players attending this week are forwards Nate Danielson, Tyson Zimmer and Rylen Roersma, who were chosen by the Wheat Kings in the opening round of this year's WHL Bantam Draft.
"We're real excited to have the '04s, ')3s and a handful of '02s together," Ritchie told Perry Bergson of the Brandon Sun this week. "It's a great time to see how they've taken a step from the winter time and from last fall."
This Sunday's scrimmage is open to the public and free of charge.
