What a Night for PawSox - Back in First Place

June 30, 2012 - International League (IL1)
Pawtucket Red Sox News Release

Whether it was the 14 run, 19 hit attack, or the 8 shutout innings thrown by Justin Germano, no matter how you slice it, it was a great night for the PawSox, knocking off first place Lehigh Valley, 14-1. The win moves Pawtucket (47-36) into a virtual tie with the Iron Pigs for the top spot in the North Division.

Germano (9-4), who has an opt out clause in his contract for July 1, made what could be his last PawSox appearance, a memorable one. Germano allowed just 4 hits, walked none and struck out a season-high 10 hitters. For the first time in his last ten outings, Germano did not allow a home run. Garrett Mock pitched the ninth inning to nail down the victory. He allowed a solo home run to former Pawtucket infielder, Tug Hulett.

The offense erupted for three runs in the second inning and four in the third. Up 7-0, they added multiple runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh. Pawtucket hitters 4 through 8, Mauro Gomez, Lars Anderson, Andy Laroche, Jason Repko and Mike Rivera combined to go 17-25 in the game. Anderson and Laroche had 4 hits each. Laroche had three doubles and a home run. Jason Repko had a single, triple and a homer. Repko amassed 6 RBI. Rivera had a pair of doubles and a two run home run.

Not much time to savor the win as the same two teams will play a day/night doubleheader on Sunday at 12:05 and 6:35 p.m. Tony Pena (0-5) and Billy Buckner (1-2) will be the scheduled Pawtucket starters.
