OH, WRITTEN IN THE STAR WARS: The Rochester Red Wings tonight play the first game of a 2-game series and homestand against the Empire State Yankees. The Red Wings returned to Rochester early this morning after losing 3 of 4 games at Lehigh Valley (Phillies). Following this brief 2-game set, it's back on the road for 2 games at Pawtucket (Red Sox) Monday-Tuesday. Rochester on Wednesday begins a 6-game homestand that leads into the All-Star Break, featuring a pair of 3-game series vs. Pawtucket and Lehigh Valley.

a The Red Wings and IronPigs will play a doubleheader on July 8, the last day of action before the All-Star Break. Gametime is 12:05 p.m.

a Rochester on Tuesday began a stretch of playing its final 14 games entering the All-Star break against International League North Division rivals. The Wings are 15-26 against the IL North and 22-18 against the rest of the league.

STAR WARS GAZING: The Red Wings tonight are hosting Star Wars Night. The team is wearing limited-edition Star Wars jerseys, which will be auctioned off during the game to benefit Hillside Family of Agencies. This year's jerseys are Chewbacca themed, featuring the brown hair and artillery sash of the character portrayed by Peter Mayhew.

a Members of Garrison Excelsior, the regional representatives of the global Star Wars costuming group known as the 501st Legion of Imperial Stormtroopers, will be on hand at the ballpark as well.

HAN COLO DE VRIES: Righthander Cole De Vries, who was originally scheduled to start tonight against Empire State, was recalled to Minnesota today. He will start the 2nd game of a doubleheader vs. Kansas City. No corresponding move has to be made because Major League Baseball rules allow rosters to expand to 26 players when teams play a doubleheader.

LUKE HERE: The Red Wings are coming off a 1-3 roadtrip at Lehigh Valley, where they were outscored 29-13. Rochester surrendered 10 runs in 2 of the losses and yesterday succumbed 6-5 in 10 innings after leading 5-2 through the 7th. The Wings' lone win came Wednesday, when Tsuyoshi Nishioka's RBI double in the 9th won it 4-3.

a Luis Perdomo, who was transferred from Double-A New Britain Tuesday, picked up the win in relief on Wednesday. He became the 17th different pitcher to earn a victory for the Red Wings. Rochester had 19 different pitchers earn a win in 2011.

CHEW(BACCA) ON THIS: The Red Wings have lost 3 of their last 4 games, 4 of their last 6, and are 8-11 since a season-best 4-game winning streak June 6-9. Rochester hasn't won more than 2 games in a row since that 4-game streak, which tied a season high from May 3-5.

a Rochester is 28-28 beginning May 3, playing .500 baseball for more than a 3rd of the season.

JAMES EARL JONESING IT IN JUNE: The Red Wings are 15-13 in June with one game remaining in the month, assuring themselves of their first winning record in a calendar month since going 17-15 in August 2009.

a At 15-13, the Red Wings have their best record of any calendar month this season, yet have their highest ERA of any month at 4.42 (120 ER/244.1 IP). Rochester has scored 105 runs in 28 games in June, however, for their highest monthly average of 3.8 runs per game. The Wings averaged 3.1 runs per game in April (71 runs in 23 games) and 3.4 runs in May (103 runs in 30 games).

NO NEED FOR THE (NA)BOO BIRDS: With Monday's victory vs. Charlotte, the Red Wings guaranteed themselves of their most wins entering the All-Star break since 2009, when they were 44-44 going into the Mid-Summer Classic. Rochester was 33-59 at the break in 2010 and 35-55 in 2011.

GOOD OBI-WAN-LOSS RECORD AT HOME: The Red Wings are 26-20 at Frontier Field, including a 22-16 mark as the home team. The Wings are unbeaten in 10 of their 13 series here, going 6-3-4. Rochester dropped 3 of 4 vs. Durham (Rays) June 18-21 for the first series defeat at home since getting swept in a 3-game set vs. Syracuse (Nationals) April 25-26.

a The Red Wings have a 3.10 ERA (139 ER/403.0 IP) in 46 games at Frontier Field in contrast to a 5.27 ERA (172 ER/294.0 IP) in 35 true road games. Rochester is an IL-worst 11-24 away from Frontier Field.

THERE'S NO (JED)I IN TEAM: The Red Wings entered play June 10 at Indianapolis ranked 3rd in the IL with a 3.45 ERA. In 19 games beginning June 10, the day after Liam Hendriks made his final start before getting recalled to Minnesota, the Red Wings have posted a 5.82 ERA (107 ER/165.1 IP). They now rank tied for 8th in the league with a 4.02 ERA with Empire State. Rochester is 8-11 in this stretch.

a Red Wings' starters are just 4-9 with a 6.59 ERA (61 ER/83.1 IP) in 19 games beginning June 10. Rochester starters are 21-26 with a 4.19 ERA (187 ER/402.0 IP) overall.

YODA MAN!!: Shortstop Pedro Florimon on Wednesday was selected to the International League All-Star team. He is the lone Red Wings' representative and he will back up starting shortstop Pedro Ciriaco of Pawtucket. The Twins claimed Florimon off waivers from the Orioles December 5, 2011.
