
Westlund Finishes Late Comeback in 2-1 OT Win

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Lincoln Stars (29-20-1-1) battled back late to tie the game and take a 2-1 win over the Des Moines Buccaneers (18-25-4-3) on Saturday evening at Buccaneer Arena.
After a scoreless first period, Buccaneers forward Brian Halonen broke the deadlock with a power play goal at 5:17 to take a 1-0 lead.
The Stars flipped the switch in the third period, putting pressure on the Buccaneers throughout most of the frame. With the netminder pulled, Stars forward Paul Cotter netted a one-time shot from the slot at 19:05 to tie the game, 1-1, and send the contest into overtime. At 0:30 of overtime, Stars forward Gustaf Westlund sealed the 2-1 win with a wrist shot from the right circle.
Stars goaltender Derek Schaedig (9-4-2) stopped 32 of 33 shots in the, while Buccaneers netminder Jake Kucharski (7-11-2) saved 24 of 26 shots in the overtime loss. The Stars return to the Ice Box on Friday, Mar. 23 at 7:35 p.m. against the Youngstown Phantoms for Country Night.
