
Olympic Gold Medalist Kendall Coyne to Highlight Steel Celebration of Girls Hockey

GENEVA, ILLINOIS - Team USA women's hockey star forward and 2018 Olympic gold medalist Kendall Coyne will appear at the Chicago Steel's "Celebration of Girls Hockey" game on Sunday, March 25 at Fox Valley Ice Arena in Geneva. The USHL regular season contest between the Steel and Team USA (USA Hockey's National Under-17 Team) starts at 3:05 p.m. and Coyne will be on hand to participate in a ceremonial puck drop, autograph session and in-game promotions.
Coyne, 25, recorded two goals and one assist at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games, helping lead Team USA to its first women's hockey gold medal in 20 years. In total, the Palos Heights, Ill., native has won 18 medals, including silver at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games, five gold medals (2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017) and one silver medal (2012) at the IIHF Women's World Championships, two gold medals (2008, 2009) and one silver medal (2010) at the IIHF Under-18 Women's World Championships, and seven medals (four gold, two silver, one bronze) at Four Nations Cups from 2010-2016.
The Northeastern University (bachelor's and master's) graduate won the 2016 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, given annually to the top female college ice hockey player in the United States. Coyne, a speedy left wing, is Hockey East's all-time leader in career points, career goals, single-season points, single-season goals, points per game and goals per game.
"We are thrilled that Kendall will be headlining our celebration of girls hockey," said Steel President Dan Lehv. "She is role model to so many young players and aspiring Olympians. It will be truly special to welcome her for our game next Sunday."

The Celebration of Girls Hockey marks Chicago's final Steel Family Sunday of the season, as well as a post-game Skate with the Steel. Coyne will sign autographs during the game starting at the first intermission. This weekend, the USHL's two most recent Clark Cup Champions-the Steel (2017) and the Tri-City Storm (2016)-face off in a pair of games at Fox Valley Ice Arena. Sunday's 3:05 p.m. matinee includes a Rusty Bobblehead Giveaway presented by Waubonsee Community College for the first 500 fans in attendance, full-team post-game autographs and the Steel Family Pack offer.
