Western Conference Regular Season Champions Finish 2009-2010 With Three Games This Week

The Hamilton Bulldogs (American Hockey League affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens) will finish the 2009-2010 regular season this week with three-match-ups. The 'Dogs host their final regular season home game on Tuesday, April 6th when they host the Manitoba Moose (AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks) for a 7:30 p.m. game at Copps Coliseum. The 'Dogs will then travel to Syracuse to a game against the Crunch (AHL affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets) on Friday, April 9th at 7:30 p.m. before meeting the Toronto Marlies (AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs) for a 4:00 p.m. game at Ricoh Coliseum on Saturday, April 10th.

Last week, the Bulldogs recorded two wins and one shootout loss as they broke the franchise record for wins in a season and the record for most points in a season. On Thursday, April 1st at Copps Coliseum the 'Dogs downed the Toronto Marlies 3-2 to earn their 50th win of the season, breaking the franchise record of 49 wins that was set by the 2002-2003 team and the 2008-2009 team. The Rochester Americans (AHL affiliate of the Florida Panthers) then visited Copps Coliseum where they earned a 4-3 shootout win over Hamilton on Saturday, April 3rd. The Bulldogs finished the week breaking the franchise record for points in a season as they earned their 112th point in a 6-2 win over the Manitoba Moose on Sunday, April 4th at Copps Coliseum.

BULLDOGS NOTES:

* The Bulldogs earned their franchise record 50th win of the season in a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Marlies on Thursday, April 1st. The win broke the previous record of 49 which was set by the 2002-2003 team and the 2008-2009 team.

* Hamilton clinched the Western Conference regular season championship when they earned a point in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Rochester Americans on Saturday. The Bulldogs will now have home-ice advantage through the first three rounds of the playoffs.

* The 'Dogs broke the club record for most points in a season when they earned two points in their 6-2 win over potential first round playoff opponent the Manitoba Moose on Sunday. The team has 112 points on the year which breaks the previous record of 110 that was set by the 2002-2003 team.

* David Desharnais earned three points in Hamilton's win over the Moose on Sunday which brings his total for the season to 78 and breaks the franchise record for points in a season. Desharnais surpasses the record of 77 that was set by Jason Chimera in the 2001-2002 season. Desharnais only needs one point to tie the franchise record for assists in one season as he currently has 51. Desharnais is tied for 4th in the AHL in scoring with 27 goals and 51 assists.

* Bulldogs D P.K. Subban was named to the AHL All-Rookie Team and was named an AHL First-Team All-Star while G Cedrick Desjardins was named an AHL Second-Team All-Star.

* Desjardins earned his 28th win of the season in Sunday's 6-2 win over Manitoba. He is tied with Yann Danis for most wins by a Bulldogs goaltender in one season as Danis earned 28 in the 2004-2005 season.

* Bulldogs F Hunter Bishop scored the first goal of his AHL career in yesterday's win over the Moose. Bishop made his professional debut on Wednesday, March 24th in a 7-1 win over Manitoba.

* Bulldogs D Yannick Weber is now tied with Andre Benoit for the franchise record for all-time goals by a Bulldogs defenceman. Both have 2 now after Weber scored two in Sunday's game.

- In their last meeting on November 14th at Copps Coliseum, Mike Glumac scored two goals and added an assist to lead the 'Dogs to a 5-1 victory.

- Syracuse currently sits in 6th place in the East Division with a record of 32-39-3-3 and 70 points

- Last season, the Bulldogs split eight games with the Crunch finishing with a 4-4-0-0 record

* Montreal forward Sergei Kostitsyn recorded a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win over the Buffalo Sabres (Apr. 3)

* Montreal goaltender Jaroslav Halak earned two shutouts in both games he played this week, blanking the Philadelphia Flyers 1-0 (Apr. 2) and stopping all shots in a 3-0 win over Buffalo (Apr. 3)

* Los Angeles forward Jarret Stoll earned an assist in 2-0 win over Nashville (Mar. 30) before scoring the game-winning goal and adding an assist in a 8-3 victory over Vancouver (Apr. 1)

* Montreal C Tomas Plekanec scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Philadelphia (Apr. 2)

* Minnesota forward Antti Miettinen scored a goal in a 3-2 loss to San Jose before scoring a goal and adding an assist in a 4-3 overtime loss to Vancouver (Apr. 4)

* Montreal D Ryan O'Byrne scored the game-winning goal in a 3-0 win over the Sabres (Apr. 3)

* Edmonton forward Marc Pouliot notched an assist in a 5-4 loss to Detroit (Mar. 30) before scoring a goal in a 6-3 loss to Dallas (Apr. 2)
