Peoria Rivermen News Release
vs. Lake Erie (4/1): Tyler Weiman carried a shutout into the 56th minute on Thursday night as the Lake Erie Monsters finished off the Peoria Rivermen 3-1 at Carver Arena. Cam Paddock accounted for Peoria's only goal while Weiman finished with 25 saves in the win.
@ Milwaukee (4/2) A head-to-head matchup between the two teams fighting for the final playoff spot in the West Division produced a 6-5 overtime win for the Peoria Rivermen over the Milwaukee Admirals at the Bradley Center. The Rivermen moved within three points of the fourth-place Admirals with four games left on Peoria's schedule and five for Milwaukee.
vs. Lake Erie (4/3): The Peoria Rivermen rattled off three unanswered goals to negate an early deficit on their way to a 4-2 win over the Lake Erie Monsters. The win officially eliminated the Monsters from postseason contention while it kept the Rivermen three points back of Milwaukee for the fourth and final playoff spot in the West Division. NEWS AND NOTES
Where they stand. The Rivermen currently sit in fifth place of the West Division with 83 points. Peoria is now just three points back of fourth-place Milwaukee for the final playoff spot with three games to play. The Rivermen can pull within one point of the Admirals with a win but would be officially eliminated from playoff contention with a loss on Tuesday.
Playoff Scenarios.Reaching the postseason is dependent on a number of factors but all include a Rivermen win on Tuesday at Milwaukee. Assuming a Rivermen win on Tuesday, the Rivermen would make the playoffs if:
The Rivermen win both Friday and Saturday in Manitoba AND the Admirals earn three points or less over their final three games (Wed. @ CHI/ Fri. vs. CHI/Sun. vs. GR)
-or- The Rivermen win either Friday or Saturday in Manitoba AND the Admirals earn one point or less over their final three games.
-or- The Rivermen earn one point over their two games in Manitoba AND the Admirals earn zero points over their final three games.
*The Rivermen own the tie-breaker if Peoria and Milwaukee finished tied in wins and points.
Race to the finish. Over the past 21 games, the Rivermen have points in 15 of them (13-6-1-1). Last season, the Rivermen went 14-2-4 to secure a second place finish in the West Division.
Good timing. In the final games of a three-game-in-three-night stretch, the Rivermen had gone 0-6-0-2 before beating Houston and Lake Erie in their last two opportunities.
Padding the stats.Cam Paddock is now tied for the longest goal-scoring streak in the AHL this season with six. His seven-game points streak is the longest active streak in the league. He has 11 points (7g, 2a) over his last seven games after registering just 11 points (4g, 7a) over his first 40 games. This is the first time in his professional career, which has stretched over 431 games between the ECHL, AHL and NHL, in which he has scored in at least three-straight games.
Hindsight is 20/20.Peoria is one of only two teams (Toronto) in the AHL without a 20 goal scorer. Both Barry Tallackson and Nicholas Drazenovic have 19 however Drazenovic suffered a season-ending injury in March.
Safety Nate.Since Nate Guenin joined the Rivermen for their game on Feb. 19, he has posted a plus-18 rating over 24 games. The next highest rating by a Rivermen player is Derek's Armstrong's plus-10 in 43 games.
Moose Tracks. The Rivermen are 2-0-0 against Manitoba this season but have not seen them since Dec. 4. They took down the Moose 7-1 in that meeting and have outscored them 9-2 overall.
