Westchester Knicks News Release
WHITE PLAINS - A tight game blown open by a big fourth quarter propelled the Grand Rapids Drive (4-6), the official NBA Development League affiliate of the Detroit Pistons, towards a win over the Westchester Knicks (7-3), the affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers.
Grand Rapids was the first to strike and went on to lead the entire first quarter. The Knicks were slow to start but two threes in a row from Travis Trice II gave Westchester some life as they never trailed by more than four. A first quarter riddled with fouls, neither team was able to capitalize with Westchester shooting 5-9 from the line, the Drive 3-6.
Westchester quickly took the lead off a Kevin Capers jumper from downtown in the first possession of the second. The quarter saw six lead changes as the two teams battled for the lead but Grand Rapids squeaked out with a one point advantage to give them a 48-45 lead at the half.
The teams continued to put the medal to the pedal in the third, keeping it a close game with a couple of quick ties. The Drive took it up to seven points, the biggest lead of the game, but Westchester got a little help from the bench. Kevin Capers came in big for the Knicks, scoring seven of his nine points in the third quarter in the final minute to give Westchester the lead heading into the final quarter.
The Knicks coasted through the first couple of minutes in the fourth, taking a nine point lead, but Grand Rapids came back with a 7-0 run and eventually regained the lead. A combined 23 points in the quarter from Devin Ebanks and Lorenzo Brown was too much for Westchester to recover from, and the game ended in favor of the Drive, 106-100.
Kevin Capers finished with a game-high 24 points in just 13 minutes off the bench. Jimmer Fredette finished with 19 points, four assists and two steals, hitting 10-of-11 free throws. Travis Trice II supplied 15 points, while Darion Atkins recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Lorenzo Brown paced the Drive with 23 points, notching the double-double with 12 assists while adding six rebounds. Devin Ebanks finished with a double-double of his own with 18 points and 15 rebounds while Kammeon Holsey also grabbed 18 points and seven boards.
The Westchester Knicks are back in action on Saturday, Dec. 12 to face the Delaware 87ers, the Orlando Magic affiliate, at 1:00 p.m. at the Westchester County Center. The game will be broadcast live on MSG and YouTube.
