Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
CHARLESTON, WV - Following an eight-game, seven-day road swing through Hickory, N.C., and North Augusta, S.C., the Power will close out the first half of the 2018 season at Appalachian Power Park with a three-game series from June 15-17 against the Delmarva Shorebirds. This meeting is the first time West Virginia will face Delmarva in 2018, with the other series set for July 14-17 in Charleston.
SCHEDULE:
Friday, June 15: Power vs. Delmarva Shorebirds - 7:05 p.m.
Saturday, June 16: Power vs. Delmarva Shorebirds - 6:05 p.m.
Sunday, June 17: Power vs. Delmarva Shorebirds - 2:05 p.m.
ABOUT THE SHOREBIRDS: Delmarva is 32-30 and was eliminated from first-half postseason contention heading into this series with West Virginia. The Shorebirds are led offensively by their three South Atlantic League All-Stars: Zach Jarrett, Seamus Curran and Trevor Craport. Curran leads the team in home runs (11) and RBI (38), while Jarrett has the highest average among the trio at .287. Matthias Dietz headlines a strong pitching core for Delmarva, posting a 5-1 record with a 3.02 ERA in 10 starts. Dietz was recently named the Baltimore Orioles' Minor League Pitcher of the Month for May. Buck Britton sits at the helm of the Shorebirds, while Bobby Rose is the hitting coach and Justin Lord is the pitching coach.
FIREWORKS FRIDAY: Stick around after the final out of the series opener against the Delmarva Shorebirds to witness the Kanawha Valley's top pyrotechnical display, presented by Huntington Bank and Electric 102.7. Gates will open at 6 p.m. and first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
WEST VIRGINIA DAY CELEBRATION: Help the Power celebrate West Virginia Day at Appalachian Power Park, where the first 1,000 people in attendance Saturday will receive a bluetooth speaker, courtesy of Appalachian Power. Gates will open at 5 p.m. and first pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
KIDZ SUNDAY FUNDAY: We will have a special Father's Day Kidz Sunday Funday at the ballpark to conclude our first-half home slate. For starters, MiLB and the Derrick Hall Pro-State Foundation are handing out mini-bat keychains to the first 750 people in attendance. It is also Lincoln County Day at the ballpark, where we will celebrate the Lincoln County community with Lincoln Primary Care and the Southern West Virginia Health System. All of that will be wrapped around the traditional Kidz Sunday Funday activities, beginning with pregame catch in the outfield and ending with kids running the bases postgame, sponsored by the SMART529 College Savings Program. Gates will open at 1 p.m. for the 2:05 p.m. first-half finale between West Virginia and Delmarva.
