Granville, W. Va. - On an overcast day at Monongalia County Ballpark, the West Virginia Black Bears routed the Batavia Muckdogs 9-2.

The Black Bears capitalized on nearly every scoring opportunity, putting up nine runs on just seven hits in the ballgame. The Muckdogs churned out six hits of their own, put couldn't put runners in scoring position to match the home team's offensive production.

West Virginia jumped out to an early lead thanks to SS Zack Kone. With runners on the corners, Kone crushed his first professional home run beyond the left field fence to give his team a 3-0 advantage after one inning.

The Black Bears built on that lead in the second inning with two more runs. LF Daniel Amaral drove home a runner on an RBI-single, immediately followed by RF Brett Kinneman's triple that put the score at 5-0.

With a solid cushion, P Mike LoPresti gave West Virginia another solid outing from the starting rotation. The tall righty threw five innings of one-run baseball, giving up four hits and one walk to go with five strikeouts.

After throwing the wild pitch, relief pitcher Cody Smith settled in for a nice relief appearance. The righty tossed three innings of work, giving up one unearned run on two hits to go with six strikeouts.

P Alec Rennard finished off the game in the top of the ninth, retiring the side in order to lock up the win and knot the series at one game apiece.
