CHARLESTON, WV - An offensive explosion and five scoreless innings of relief work from Samuel Reyes led West Virginia to a 7-0 shutout of the Charleston RiverDogs Sunday afternoon at Appalachian Power Park.

Reyes (2-3) tossed a career-high five innings in relief of Travis MacGregor, who left in the third inning. Reyes allowed just five hits and struck out two to pick up his second victory.

The Power (25-28, 62-57) started the scoring in the third. Robbie Glendinning led off the frame with a single and moved to third on a Jesse Medrano double. Lolo Sanchez then singled to the pitcher, while Glendinning came in to score on a throwing error by Reiver Sanmartin (2-6). Medrano scored later in the frame off a Connor Kaiser groundout to short.

In the fourth, West Virginia added four more, as four straight Power hitters reached base safely. Dylan Busby singled, Raul Hernandez was hit by a pitch, and Glendinning singled to load the bases for Medrano, who stroked a base hit off Sanmartin to score Rodolfo Castro, who was pinch running for Busby. Sanchez then lifted a sacrifice fly to left that plated Hernandez. Next, Travis Swaggerty reached on an error that brought in Glendinning, and Kaiser capped the scoring with a ground-rule double underneath the Blue Light Party Deck in right field to send in Medrano and push West Virginia ahead of Charleston (57-65, 24-30), 6-0.

The offense was not done there. Castro smashed his 11th homer of the year to right-center in his first at-bat in the fifth to give the Power a 7-0 lead. Castro has now homered in back-to-back games for the second time this season. The other time he accomplished the feat was April 29 and May 1 at Lexington and versus Augusta, respectively.

Elvis Escobar completed the shutout for West Virginia, twirling two scoreless innings and striking out a pair.

West Virginia continues its homestand with the Charleston RiverDogs Monday evening at Appalachian Power Park, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. RHP Max Kranick (3-5, 4.30 ERA) takes the mound for the Power, while the RiverDogs counter with righty Nolan Martinez (0-1, 2.70 ERA).
