Crawdads Shut out Drive on Sunday

Greenville, SC - The Greenville Drive couldn't get much going in Sunday afternoon's rain-marred game at Fluor Field, as the Hickory Crawdads allowed just four hits en route to a 4-0 shutout.

The Crawdads (33-23, 63-61) used three pitchers to hold the Drive (32-24, 57-68) scoreless on the day. Noah Bremer threw the first four frames before leaving after a one hour, 31 minute rain delay. He was relieved by former Clemson University hurler Alex Eubanks (8-5), who struck out four over three innings. Demarcus Evans followed by striking out all five hitters he faced to notch his ninth save.

Greenville found themselves in a 2-0 hole after the first half inning. Bubba Thompson singled and stole second to begin the game, and he came home on Yonny Hernandez's ground-rule double to right off Eduard Bazardo (1-1). Hernandez later scored in the frame when he scooted home on a ball in the dirt following a strikeout.

Hickory pushed their lead to 3-0 in the fourth when Tyreque Reed doubled and later scored on a single to center by Preston Scott.

Bazardo struck out six hitters over four innings for the Drive in his Fluor Field debut.

The score stayed at 3-0 until the seventh when Thompson's double down the third base line scored Sam Huff, who singled with one out.

The Drive had their best scoring opportunity in the bottom of the eighth, as they loaded the bases with one out thanks to a single by Kervin Suarez and a pair of Hickory errors. Evans came in and put out the fire by striking out two to leave the bases full.

Rio Gomez threw two scoreless innings for Greenville to finish out the game.

Monday's contest at Fluor Field begins at 7:05 PM. Left-hander Angel Padron (5-5, 3.90) will start for the Drive, and the Crawdads will counter with right-hander Tyler Phillips (9-5, 2.79).
