West Michigan Defeats Lake County 6-1

Lake County Captains News Release


(Eastlake, OH) - Adolfo Reina had three hits including his first homerun of the season to lead West Michigan (22-24) over Lake County (15-30) by a score of 6-1. Reina homered in the second inning to make it a 2-0 game and added two singles later in the ballgame. Reina was hitting just .158 entering the ballgame. Lake County has now lost five straight games.

West Michigan scored a run in the first inning when Jared Reaves walked and came around to score on a groundout by Jeff Holm and the score was 1-0. After the homer, the score was 2-0, and West Michigan added on in the fourth. It became 4-0 when the Whitecaps got two unearned runs. Zach Kirksey reached on a two base error and scored on another two base error and the score was 3-0. Also in the inning Lance Durham had an RBI single.

Lake County got their only run of the ballgame in the bottom of the third inning. Anthony Santander singled and scored on an RBI triple by LeVon Washington. The score at the time was 4-1 Whitecaps. West Michigan added two runs in the seventh when Jared Reaves doubled and Devon Travis grounded out and another run scored.

RHP Robbie Aviles (1-1) started for the Captains. Aviles took the loss. Robbie pitched one and two thirds innings and allowed two earned runs, one walk, one strikeout and allowed one homerun. Michael Peoples entered when Aviles left with an apparent injury in the second inning. Peoples went four and one thirds innings and allowed two unearned runs, on four hits and he struck out four. DJ Brown pitched two innings and allowed three hits and two earned runs and struck out four. Jack Wagoner pitched the ninth for Lake County and did not allow a run. Wagoner now has pitched eight and one third scoreless innings for the Captains.

The Whitecaps sent RHP Yourfrank Lopez (5-2) to the mound to start the game. Lopez pitched six innings and allowed five hits, one earned run and five strikeouts. Brennan Smith entered in relief and earned his first save of the season after pitching three innings. Smith did not allow a run or a hit in the three innings, he walked one and struck out three.

Sunday is a Family Fun Sunday, presented by the Lake County YMCA, featuring a pre-game player autograph session, concourse entertainment and activities, the Kids' Zone area and the opportunity for kids to run the bases after the game. All kids in attendance will receive a Captains activities book and crayons, presented by the YMCA and Lake County Job and Family Services.

Lake County will send RHP Jake Sisco (1-3, 3.60) to the mound to start the ballgame. West Michigan will counter with RHP Endrys Briceno (0-3, 5.79) First Pitch will be at 1:30 PM.
