Peoria Chiefs News Release
Peoria, IL- Behind a career-high seven shutout innings from Kyle Helisek and Patrick Wisdom's three-hit, two RBI performance the Peoria Chiefs shutout the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 6-0 on Saturday night. The Chiefs are 24-22 and have a chance to go three games over .500 for the first time this season on Sunday.
Following two scoreless innings from Kyle the Chiefs put across a run in the bottom of the second frame against Tyler Wagner. With one out Wisdom doubled to right field and reached third on a passed ball. Carson Kelly Singled to right bringing around Wisdom to put the Chiefs up 1-0.
After the Timber Rattlers threatened but did not score the Chiefs plated one in the bottom of the third inning. With one out Ildemaro Vargas reached second on his third double of the home stand. Alex Mejia roped a ground ball to shortstop Orlando Arcia, who overthrew third base allowing Vargas to score. Mejia moved to second on the error, but was stranded there to keep the Chiefs lead at 2-0.
Without recording a hit the Chiefs built on their lead in the third inning. Michael Swinson reached first on an error by second baseman Chris McFarland, and swiped second with Kelly at the plate. He reached third on a passed ball and came around to score on an Adam Ehrlich ground out to short, extending the Chiefs lead to 3-0.
The only time the Timber Rattlers threatened Helisek was in the top of the seventh inning. Adam Giacalone and Parker Berberet reached on back-to-back singles to two on and only one out. After Clint Coulter popped out to first, Helisek rung up Chris McFarland to escape the frame and cap off a career night.
The Chiefs pushed the game out of reach with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning with reliever Matt Viramontes on the hill. With two outs Vargas walked and stole second before Mejia and Jacob Wilson also reached via the walk. Wisdom singled to right field to plate Vargas and Mejia while moving Wilson to second. Swinson followed with a single to right field to score Wilson and put the Chiefs up 6-0.
