Altoona Curve News Release
CURVE, Pa. - The Altoona Curve are pleased to announce that the 6 p.m. home game on June 21 at Peoples Natural Gas Field has been selected as one of 15 nationally televised games that will appear on the American Sports Network (ASN) as part of their Minor League Baseball Sunday Showcase. The Curve will take on the Harrisburg Senators that night and the game will be televised locally in the Altoona-Johnstown Area on WJAC-TV (Channel 6) and in the Pittsburgh Market on My Pittsburgh TV (Channel 22).
"While we've been fortunate to have national recognition over the years, this will be the franchise's first full, nationally televised game," said Curve General Manager Rob Egan. "ESPN News showed portions of our in-house feed for Stephen Strasburg's professional debut here in 2010, but the entire Curve-Senators game on June 21 will be produced by ASN and broadcast nationally over their affiliates, including WJAC in our local market. We're thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase Peoples Natural Gas Field and the 'Curve, PA' experience to a nationwide audience."
American Sports Network is a programming initiative of Sinclair Networks Group, LLC., which is a division of Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc. They produced over 250 college sports games during the 2014-15 academic year that featured distinguished Division 1 conferences like the A-10, Big South, Big 10, Conference USA and the Western Athletic Conference, among many others.
This year's MiLB Sunday Showcase will televise games from all levels of the minor leagues ranging from Class-A all the way to Triple-A. The schedule includes 13 Sunday night MiLB contests along with two league All-Star Games.
The game's on-air talent includes current ASN broadcasters Dave Armstrong, Keith Moreland and Brian McRae. Armstrong, who worked for the Kansas City Royals (1993-95) and Colorado Rockies (1996-2001) will provide play-by-play for the Curve-Senators game. Moreland, a 12-year MLB veteran with the Phillies, Cubs and Pirates, and McRae, a 10-year MLB vet, will provide color commentary. In his post-baseball career, McRae has worked as a studio analyst on ESPN's Baseball Tonight, WGN and SportsChannel Chicago and part-time game analyst for the Kansas City Royals.
Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc. owns and operates, programs or provides sales service to 161 television stations in 79 markets.
Altoona returns home for its next homestand at 6 p.m. on Friday with the Tony Watson Elementary Bobblehead giveaway to the first 1,500 fans thanks to the Altoona Grand Hotel. For tickets and more information, visit AltoonaCurve.com, call 877.99.CURVE or stop by the box office at PNG Field.
