New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats loss to the Altoona Curve by the score of 4-0 on Wednesday evening at New Britain Stadium.

RHP Shane Carle pitched well enough to keep the Cats' within striking distance over his eight innings of work. Originally drafted by the Pirates back in 2013, Carle allowed three runs on four hits while walking one and striking out five. Despite the strong outing, the right-hander falls to 5-3 on the season.

Altoona drew first blood in the top of the third inning on a bloop single by CF Keon Broxton. The base hit fell in front of RF David Dahl and gave SS Gift Ngoepe enough time to come in from third. Ngoepe reached on a single to CF Noel Cuevas and advanced to second when the ball was bobbled by the outfielder.

Visiting starter RHP Chad Kuhl did not allow a baserunner until a two-out walk issued to Dahl in the bottom of the fourth. The right-hander collected five strikeouts while retiring the first eleven batters.

SS Trevor Story broke up Kuhl's no-hit bid with a single to lead-off the bottom of the fifth, one of five Rock Cats hits on the night.

The game was delayed for 19 minutes when the umpires called for the tarp in the top of the seventh.

C Jacob Stallings gave the Curve a 3-0 lead with one swing of the bat in the top of the eighth, sending a two-run homer over the left field wall off of Carle. RF Stetson Allie was hit by the starter's first pitch of the frame and the backstop cleared the bases on his first home run of the season.

Altoona tacked on their fourth run of the evening in the ninth when 2B Max Moroff, who drew a walk from RHP Gus Schlosser to start the inning, came home on a grounder that was misplayed by 3B Jayson Langfels.

Kuhl's line was very impressive - giving up three hits over six innings and allowing just one walk while striking out seven. The right-hander improves to 3-1 with the victory.

RHP Bryan Evans makes his second start and first home appearance for the Rock Cats on Wednesday morning - a special 10:35 a.m. start. Altoona counters with RHP Matt Benedict to wrap up the three-game series.
