
Wenyen Gabriel Earns NBA Call-Up with Brooklyn Nets

OSHKOSH, Wis. - The Brooklyn Nets announced they have signed Wisconsin Herd forward Wenyen Gabriel to a 10-day hardship contract.
Gabriel appeared in 12 games for the Wisconsin Herd including 10 starts this season. With the Herd, he averaged 13.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game. He leads the team in rebounds per game and currently holds the season-high of 17 rebounds in one game. He is averaging 25.8 minutes a game while shooting 47.5% from field goals, 38.7% from three-pointers and 44.8% from the free-throw line.
Gabriel scored double figures in eight games this season, including three 20+ point efforts. Gabriel posted three double-double games this season. His first double-double was against the Cleveland Charge with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Gabriel had his second double-double against Grand Rapids Gold with a season-high 26 points and 17 rebounds. He posted his third double-double against the Iowa Wolves with 23 points and 17 rebounds.
Before joining the Herd, Gabriel played the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons with the Stockton Kings as a two-way player with the Sacramento Kings. During the 2018-19 season with the Kings, Gabriel averaged 10.1 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 42 games. He did not appear in a game with the Sacramento Kings in the 2018-19 season. During the 2019-20 season, Gabriel averaged 19.3 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists in seven games with the Stockton Kings.
During the 2019-20 season, Wenyen Gabriel played in 11 games for the Sacramento Kings and averaged 1.7 points in 5.6 minutes. After getting traded to the Portland Trail Blazers in January 2020, he appeared in 19 games for the Trail Blazers and averaged 2.3 points in 9.1 minutes. During the 2020-21 season, Gabriel played in 21 games with the New Orleans Pelicans averaging 3.4 points in 11.5 minutes of gameplay.
A hardship contract is a temporary roster spot that allows teams to add more players beyond their roster limit. Teams are allowed to do this when they have experienced multiple players being out due to injury or illness.
The Wisconsin Herd will return to action at home on Monday, December 27th when they take on the Long Island Nets with tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. CST.
