[FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.] - Josh Welter of the Fayetteville FireAntz, today, was named the Sherwood Player of the Week in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL). The Ft. Saskatchewan, Alberta native ended the week with four goals and five assists for nine points.

The FireAntz went 2-0-1 this week and Welter was outstanding in each game. In the FireAntz 11-1 victory on Tuesday, November 15th at Jacksonville, Welter tallied four goals and two assists. He and teammate Rob Whidden each had three goals in the FireAntz record-setting seven-goal first period. Whidden also was nominated for this week's award.

In Knoxville, on Saturday, November 19th, Welter assisted on Dean Jackson's go-ahead goal in the third period. The Ice Bears would come back and win 4-3 in overtime.

On Sunday, November 20th, in Columbus, Welter had two assists, one of which (again to Jackson) would be the game-winning-goal.

Welter is now third in the SPHL in scoring with 19 points on 9 goals and 10 assists. This is the second time that a member of the FireAntz has received the Player of the Week honor this season. Goaltender Jomar Cruz won for the games of October 21st thru October 30th.
