Barracudas sign Jason Simon

November 22, 2005 - SPHL (SPHL)
Jacksonville Barracudas News Release

The Jacksonville Barracudas announce today that they have signed former National Hockey League player Jason Simon to a contract. Simon, who can play both forward and defense, is in his 15th season as a professional, a career that included 5 games in the NHL with the New York Islanders and the Phoenix Coyotes.

"Jason will provide veteran leadership to our blue line," said Assistant Coach Brett Strot. "He is a player that has played at every level, and had the work ethic and ability to make it all the way to the NHL. He is going to be a big contributor for this team."

In order to make room for the 6-foot-1, 225-pound Simon, the Barracudas were forced to release defenseman Brian Jaeger. Jaeger had a goal and an assist, 32 penalty minutes and was -4 over the course of 11 games.

In another move, goaltender Jan Chovan was returned to the Barracudas from the Charlotte Checkers of the East Coast Hockey League. Chovan was called up last week as an emergency back up goaltender. Goaltender Ben Gray was released to free the roster spot for Chovan.

The Barracudas are on the road for two games this weekend in Fayetteville and Pee Dee before returning home for a game against the Pee Dee Cyclones on Tuesday, November 29th. It will be "Two-4-Tuesday", as Arena Club tickets, draft beer, and sodas will all be 2-for-1. Hot dogs will be "buy-2-get-1-free". For more information and group purchases please call the Barracudas office at 904-367-1423. For individual game purchases, please call the Arena Box Office at 904-630-3900, or visit Ticketmaster.com.
