Welcome Aboard: 'Cats Add Three to Roster

August 5, 2013 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Tri-City ValleyCats News Release

TROY, NY- The Tri-City ValleyCats roster received a minor overhaul on Monday, as RHP Tyler Brunnemann, RHP Troy Scribner and first baseman Tyler White were all promoted from Greeneville to Tri-City. All three players will be with the team when the 'Cats open a six-game home stand on Tuesday against Williamsport.

Brunnemann was the 40th round pick of the Astros in this year's draft out of Hardin-Simmon University in Texas. The right-hander appeared in 14 games for Greeneville, all out of the bullpen. In 19.1 innings pitched, Brunnemann registered 28 strikeouts, and compiled a 2-0 record with a 4.66 ERA. For Hardin-Simmons this past year, the Garden Ridge, TX native was 3-1 with a 1.64 ERA in 33 innings.

Tri-City will be Scribner's third stop in the organization since signing with Houston as a free agent after this year's draft. The Sacred Heart University graduate appeared in only two games (one start) for Greeneville, throwing five scoreless innings. He started the season with the Gulf Coast League Astros, where he pitched to a 1.26 ERA in eight games (two starts), striking out 42 hitters in 28.2 innings. The Connecticut native was 5-2 with a 2.59 ERA for Sacred Heart this season.

The Astros took Tyler White with their 33rd round pick in this year's draft. Like Scribner, White's promotion to the ValleyCats represents his third different club since June. He has hit extremely well with both GCL and Greeneville so far, batting at a .360 clip in 125 at-bats, split almost evenly between the two levels. White has a .446 on-base percentage, which would lead the 'Cats current roster. The Western Carolina product hit .363 in his senior year for the Catamounts.

The additions of these three to the Tri-City roster come as corresponding moves for the promotions of RHP Pat Chirstensen, 2B Tony Kemp and RHP Zach Morton to Class-A Quad Cities. The 'Cats will enter play on Tuesday at 27-21, tied with Lowell for first place in the Stedler Division.
