
Five Scrappers Selected for New York-Penn League All-Star Game

NILES, OH - The New York-Penn League and the Connecticut Tigers are pleased to announce the 2013 NYPL All-Star Game rosters. There are 18 position players and ten pitchers who will represent both the American and National League at Dodd Stadium on August 13.
The American League squad will feature five Scrappers players including two left handed pitchers and three infielders.
Starting the game for the American League will be first baseman Nellie Rodriguez and shortstop James Roberts. Rodriguez, one of the youngest players in the league is currently hitting .320 and ranks in the top five in the New York-Penn League for homeruns (7), RBI (30), hits (54) and total bases (87). Roberts has found success throughout the Scrappers lineup and is currently hitting .310 through twenty-six games played.
Rounding out the Scrappers infield All-Star selections is second baseman Claudio Bautista. Bautista is hitting .286 with twelve doubles and seventeen RBI on the season.
Left Handed Pitcher Luis Lugo enters August leading not only the Scrappers pitchers staff but the entire New York Penn League with an ERA of 1.30. Through 41.3 innings pitched the lefty has given up thirty hits, eight runs, six earned runners, eight walks, and has struck out twenty-two batters. Joining Lugo on the American League roster will be fellow lefty Matt Whitehouse. Whitehouse has excelled this season for the Scrappers and has the lowest ERA out of the bullpen at 0.39. Whitehouse has given up thirteen hits, six runs with only one being earned. He has walked two and struck out seventeen batters in 23.1 innings pitched in nine total appearances.
The American League squad will be coached by Connecticut Tigers (Tigers) staff and the National League will be coached by the Brooklyn Cyclones (Mets) staff.
The players will also be part of the festivities at the All-Star Gala at Mohegan Sun on Monday, August 12 at 6:30pm, and the All-Star Luncheon at Holiday Inn Norwich on Tuesday, August 13 at noon.
