Sarnia Sting News Release
After falling to the reigning Western Conference Champions, Erie, on Friday night in the club's home opener, the Sting earned their first win of the 2015-16 Regular Season on Sunday afternoon; ousting the Kingston Frontenacs in a shootout.
After finishing the 2014-15 season with a 29-32-4-3 record, the Sting look to take a step forward in 2015-16. The Sting have 10 returning players who tallied at least 10 goals during their 2014-15 campaign, all of which will be looking to improve on last year's statistics.
The Sting embark on their first road trip of season this weekend, travelling to Barrie, North Bay and Sudbury.

Sting Notes
Daniel Nikandrov: After being named team captain on Thursday, Nikandrov had a good showing for the Sting over the weekend, picking up a goal in each of Sarnia's Opening Week games. Nikandrov served as an assistant captain for the last two seasons, and is currently the only overage player on the Sting roster.
Justin Fazio: After a tough debut against Erie on Friday night, Sarnia native Justin Fazio was in fine form on Sunday afternoon against the Frontenacs. Fazio turned aside 31 of 24 shots faced through 65:00 and stopped 2 of 3 shootout attempts to solidify the win for the Sting.
Nikita Korostelev: Despite only notching one assist through the first two games, Korostelev was an offensive threat in both appearances. The Maple Leafs prospect converted on his shootout attempt in Sunday's win over Kingston.
Jakob Chychrun: The 2016 NHL Draft top prospect scored his first of the season against Erie on Friday night. Recent rankings have Chychrun being taken 2nd overall in the upcoming NHL draft.
Injury Report: Connor Schlichting - upper body (week-to-week), Noah Bushnell - illness (expected to return this week)
Thursday, October 1, 2015 -Sarnia Sting (1-1-0-0) @ Barrie Colts (2-0-0-0)
Puck Drop: 7:30 p.m.
The Colts opened up the 2015-16 season with 2 road wins last weekend, beating the Frontenacs in overtime on Friday, and topping the Ottawa 67's 4-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Players to watch
Andrew Mangiapane: Coming off a 104 point campaign with the Colts last year, Mangiapane was a factor last weekend on the road; scoring three times and adding two helpers. Look for Mangiapane to be near the top of the OHL's top scorers list all season long.
Mackenzie Blackwood: After being selected 42nd overall by the Devils in last year's NHL Entry Draft, Blackwood will be a key fixture in Barrie this season. Through 2 starts already, Blackwood has only allowed 3 goals and is sporting a .966 save %.
Friday, October 2, 2015 - Sarnia Sting (1-1-0-0) @ North Bay Battalion (0-2-0-0)
Puck Drop: 7:00 p.m.
The Battalion had a rough start to their 2015-16 campaign, losing 4-1 to the Petes in their Home Opener on Friday, and then being shut out by the Generals on Sunday afternoon in Oshawa.
Players to watch
Mike Amadio: Amadio led the Battalion in both assists (47) and points (71) last season. The centreman was selected 90th overall by the LA Kings in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
Zach Piorier: After a tough rookie season last year, former first round pick Zach Piorier will look to take a step forward in 2015-16. The 98-born centreman scored North Bay's lone goal last weekend.
Sunday, October 4, 2015 - Sarnia Sting (1-1-0-0) @ Sudbury Wolves (1-1-0-0)
Puck Drop: 2:00 p.m.
After a tough season last year, the Wolves will be looking towards their young nucleus to provide the city with a return to the post-season. They opened the 2015-16 campaign with 1 win and 1 loss against two tough opponents last week (NIA & MISS).
Players to watch
David Levin: The 2015 first overall pick scored in his OHL debut on Friday night in Sudbury. Levin is a highly skilled winger with extremely soft hands and high end puck skills. Look for him to be a big part of the Wolves rebuild.
Michael Pezetta: Albeit the season is still young, Pezetta leads the Wolves in scoring after registering 3 points (2G, 1A) in 2 games last weekend.
