
Week in review; Komets score 4-2 win at Evansville; Division rivals visit this weekend

Fort Wayne, IN - The Komets returned to action after the ECHL All-Star Break with one game for the week ending Jan. 27. Saturday night the Komets doubled-up the IceMen at Evansville 4-2 to improve to 23-19-2 and 48 points after 44 games.
The win at Evansville Saturday snapped a brief two-game Komet winless skid. It was Fort Wayne's second straight win over the IceMen to lead the series 5-2-0, 3-1-0 at Evansville, with four meetings remaining. It was the second time this season the Komets have won after trailing at the start of the second period (2-7-0).
The Komets are now undefeated (6-0-0) when holding an opponent to less than 25 shots in a game and 16-2-0 when scoring four or more goals in a game. The Komets allowed two power play goals in the game for the 14th time this season and have yet to surrender more than two power play goals in a game. Fort Wayne is 7-5-0 for January with one game remaining in the month after posting a 5-6-1 January record last season.
How the K's stand-The Komets begin week 17 residing in third place in the North Division trailing first-place Cincinnati by nine points with a game in hand and two points behind second place Toledo. After 44 games the Komets are 23-19-2 with 28 games remaining in the 2012-13 ECHL campaign.
Streaking Komets-Brandon Marino (RW) scored two goals and added an assist to extend his point and assist streak to three games (2g, 4a). Saturday's game was his sixth three-point night of the year and third two-goal game.....Brett Smith (C) also pushed his point and assist streak to three games (1g, 3a).....Goaltender Kenny Reiter extended his road win streak to six games. Reiter has appeared in six of the last 10 Fort Wayne games (5-1-0, 2.12 goals-against average, .930 save percentage, 1 shutout).
The week ahead-The Komets will skate three games in four nights this week beginning with a trip to Kalamazoo Wednesday for a 7pm faceoff at Wings Stadium. Friday the Komets return home to host the Wings at 8pm before welcoming Cincinnati Saturday night at 7:30.
Komet leaders of the week-In the only game slated last week the Komets doubled-up the IceMen at Evansville 4-2 Saturday night. Marino scored two goals including the game winner and added an assist for a three-point week while Smith contributed a goal and assist for two points in the game. Forward John Dunbar tallied his third pro goal since joining the Komets six games ago (Jan. 12). Netminder Reiter stopped 20 of 22 shots for his 13th win of the season.
Leaders of the pack-Marino continues to lead the Komets with 36 assists, 50 points and +9.....J.M. Rizk (RW) leads with 15 goals.....Daniel Maggio (D) leads with 139 penalty minutes....Reiter leads with 13 wins, 2.80 goals-against average and .913 save percentage after 23 games.
He's back- Skater Matt Syrocynski has returned to the Komet fold for his third stint, the Komets announced Friday. The left wing served previously with the Komets during 2006-07 and 2009-10, helping the Komets win the 2010 IHL Turner Cup Championship while earning the Playoff MVP Award. This season is his fifth as a pro. Syrocynski skated one game earlier in January with Florida in the ECHL.
Pink The Rink this weekend-The Komets and the Vera Bradley Foundation will present the second annual Pink The Rink Weekend this weekend to fight breast cancer and promote awareness for early detection and treatment. The Komets will Pink The Rink Friday night when they host Kalamazoo and Saturday night when the Cincinnati Cyclones visit by wearing special pink jerseys trimmed in white and black. The jerseys will be sold during a silent auction starting with Friday's game and continuing into Saturday night's match. Also, player's wives and significant others will sell "Pink The Rink" autographed player pucks. Net proceeds will be donated to the Vera Bradley Foundation.
Komet legends to skate at Toledo-The Komet Legends announced last week that they will skate an exhibition at Toledo against the Toledo Alumni Sunday, Feb. 17 prior to the ECHL game between the Komets and the Toledo Walleye at Huntington Center in downtown Toledo. The legends game will start at 2pm and the Komets-Walleye match will faceoff at 5:05pm. Among the Komet legends schedule to appear are Kevin Bertram, Kelly Perrault, Ron Leef, Martin Burgers, John Hilworth, Steve Fletcher, Carey Lucyk, Adam Lewis and Chad Dameworth. Serving behind the bench as coaches will be Robbie Irons, George Drysdale, Reg Primeau and Chuck Adamson. The Toledo Walleye are offering a special ticket price of $13 for both games for Komet fans. KOMETS ON ICE THIS WEEK-
- Wednesday Komets at Kalamazoo Wings (19-19-5, 43 points), 7pm-The Komets will begin a week of three games in four nights when they visit Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo Wednesday at 7pm. It will be the 12th of 16 meetings this season. The Komets lead the series 6-4-1 and are 3-3-1 at Kalamazoo since the last meeting Jan. 19 at Wings Stadium where the Wings clipped the Komets 3-2. Fourth-place Kalamazoo trails the Komets by five points in the North Division and are unbeaten in regulation the last five games (3-0-2).
- Friday Kalamazoo Wings at Komets, 8pm- The Komets and Wings travel back to Fort Wayne after Wednesday's game in Kalamazoo for an 8pm faceoff Friday at the Memorial Coliseum. It's the first Komet home game in two weeks and the fifth of six Kalamazoo visits. The Komets are 3-1-0 after four meetings on Coliseum ice.
- Saturday Cincinnati Cyclones (26-14-5, 57 points) at Komets, 7:30pm-The Komets have a chance to gain ground on North Division leader Cincinnati. It's Cincinnati's fifth of six visits and the seventh meeting out of nine slated this season between the two teams. The Komets are an even 3-3-0 on the season series. The Cycones are unbeaten in regulation over the past five games (4-0-1). Cincinnati will host Toledo Thursday and skate at Evansville Friday before traveling to Fort Wayne Saturday.

The half-hour show is televised from the WPTA TV studios each week with INC's Tommy Schoegler as host and features highlights, interviews and call-ins as Komet players and personnel serve as co-hosts. Tonight, Jan. 28, Komet center Brett Smith will be Tommy's guest.
