January 28, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release

The Alaska Aces have acquired forward Spencer Bennett form the Orlando Solar Bears in exchange for goaltender James Reid, Aces Head Coach, Rob Murray announced on Monday. Bennett will join the Aces in time for this weekend's games in Las Vegas. The Aces travel to play the Wranglers on Friday and Saturday, before returning home on Friday, February 8th. All Aces games this season can be heard on NewsTalk 103.7FM and 750AM KFQD. Bennett, 22, appeared in three games for the Solar Bears this season, collecting one assist. A former fifth round pick of the Calgary Flames in the 2009 NHL Draft, Bennett made his pro debut at the tail end of the 2011 season when he appeared in two games with the Abbotsford Heat of the American Hockey League. Last year he played in nine games with the AHL's Portland Pirates, where he had two goals and one assist. He also played in four games for the Gwinnett Gladiators, maintaining his rookie status for this season. Prior to turning pro, the 6'4", 200 lbs. native of White Rock, British Columbia spent two seasons in the WHL split with the Portland Winterhawks and Vancouver Giants. He collected solid numbers, posting a combined 110 points (56g, 54a) in 143 games.

Reid leaves the Aces after appearing in 11 total games between last season and this season. He went a combined 7-3-1 for the Aces with a 2.44 GAA and .894 save percentage. He played in two games early this season before suffering an injury that has kept him out the majority of the year. He was 1-1 in those games allowing eight goals on 45 shots. This trade marks the second deal between Alaska and Olrando this season. Earlier in the year the Aces acquired Alex Imbeault for future considerations - later determined to be defenseman Alain Goulet.

The Aces now hit the road for two games in Las Vegas on Friday and Saturday night before returning home for a three-game weekend against the Stockton Thunder on Friday, February 8th. All Aces games can be heard on NewsTalk 103.7FM and 750AM KFQD.
