Friday, January 25; Special Teams Help Reign Past Eagles

LOVELAND, Colo. - The Ontario Reign topped the Colorado Eagles, 3-1, in the first of back-to-back meetings between the teams. The game was essentially decided during a short stretch of the third period in which the Pacific Division leading Reign capitalized on a two-man advantage, followed shortly after by an unproductive 5-on-3 opportunity for the Eagles. Otherwise, the contest was essentially a draw, with Colorado out-shooting Ontario, 26-25, in a closely contested affair.

Saturday, January 26; Eagles Sign Forward Tommy Lange

The Colorado Eagles of the ECHL announced today their third player acquisition this week with the signing of forward Tommy Lange. Lange has played in 154 professional games between the ECHL, the Central Hockey League, the Southern Professional Hockey League and the former International Hockey League since the 2008-09 season.

LOVELAND, Colo. - The Ontario Reign took over the top spot in the ECHL with a 5-3 win over the Colorado Eagles, winning both games in the weekend set at the Budweiser Events Center. Colton Yellow Horn, the league's top point producer and goal scorer, had a pair of goals to pace the visitors in their win.

THE WEEK AHEAD

Friday, February 1 & Saturday, February 2; Colorado Makes Season's First Trip to Condorstown

Looking to get back on the winning track, the Eagles will head to Bakersfield to take on the last-place Condors. All-time, Colorado has a record of 11-3-0 against the Condors, including a mark of 5-2-0 in Bakersfield last season. However, the Eagles out-scored the Condors by just five total goals in those seven games, and Bakersfield has a winning record over its past 10 games.

NOTABLE NUMBERS

EXTRA EFFICIENT - Not only do the Eagles possess the league's most productive power play -- it's converted on 24.1% of its chances this season -- but it's been working at a rapid pace of late as well. In the past two games against Ontario, the Eagles' three power-play goals came just four seconds, 16 seconds and eight seconds into their man advantages.

THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COIN - While Colorado has sat atop the league's power play rankings all season, its penalty killing has struggled, ranking 21st in the ECHL. Part of the problem is the amount of time the team finds itself in the sin bin. Colorado ranks 3rd in the league with an average of just under 25 penalty minutes per game, thanks to their league-leading 303 minors and 14 10-minute misconducts. All that time in the box has led the Eagles to allowing a league high 58 power-play goals against.

EXCELLENT AT EVEN STRENGTH - Over Adam Brown's past 12 starts, he's allowed more than two even strength goals in a game just once, allowing a total of 11 even strength tallies in the other 11 games. Brown's 2.54 GAA ranks 3rd among rookie goalies, trailing only All-Stars Ryan Zapolski & Mike Lee.

WINNING FORMULA - There are certain things that, when accomplished, greatly increase the Eagles' chances of winning. The Eagles are 15-4-1 when scoring the game's first goal, 13-3-1 when leading after the first period, 17-4-2 when leading after the second period, 14-4-0 when out-shooting their opponent and 13-1-2 when scoring at least four goals.

BACK TO BAKO - The Eagles are 3-0 against the Condors this season, out-scoring them 10-5 in a trio of meetings at the BEC just before Christmas. The Eagles will be making their first trip to Condorstown this week, where they have an all-time record of 5-2-0, but have out-scored the big birds by just five goals (23-18). Colorado's .786 all-time winning percentage against the Condors is their second-best against any team in the ECHL, second only to their .833 mark against the expansion Bulls.

FLYING HIGH ONCE MORE - Michael Forney is the hottest Eagles player as of late, riding a six game point streak that includes four goals and four assists (4-4-8). His surge started with a hat trick against Stockton on Jan. 9, which ironically, snapped a cold streak for the team's leading active point producer; prior to the outburst, Forney hadn't scored a goal in 15 games spanning 39 days.

RARE HOME SKID - Despite owning one of the league's better home records (15-7-1), the Eagles are currently on a three-game losing streak at the Budweiser Events Center, a building in which they've won 75% of their regular season games all-time. It's just the 4th time in the team's 10 seasons that it's lost three games in a row at home, and just one loss away from the record of four, which has happened just once.
