Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, Manitoba -- Westman Communications Group Place is expected to be packed Wednesday night when the Brandon Wheat Kings play host to the league leading Saskatoon Blades in a battle between two of the Western Hockey League's heavyweights.
Wednesday night is Rain Check Night at Westman Place, meaning any unused Wheat King ticket can be exchanged at the Keystone Centre box office (located in the Pioneer Lounge) for a free ticket to this game (appregular Ticketmaster agency fees will apply). With over 3,600 Season Ticket holders this season, western Manitoba hockey fans may want to stop by and get their tickets soon as the box office reports that traffic has been brisk this week in anticipation of this game.
While the Blades come to town sporting the best record in the WHL at 20-4-0-3, the Wheat Kings have won four of their last five and three straight on home ice. Brandon is currently seven points back of first place Saskatoon with a 17-11-0-2 mark, good for 36 points.
18-year old Saskatoon product Brayden Schenn, who hopes to be getting some good news from Hockey Canada Wednesday morning, goes into the game sitting in a tie with Vancouver's Craig Cunningham for fourth in league scoring with thirteen goals and 41 points in 26 games.
Brandon currently leads the WHL's East Division in scoring but the Blades continue to lead the entire league in goals against, having given up just 65 goals in 27 games.
Schenn, Scott Glennie and Colby Robak recently played for Team WHL in the Subway Super Series against the Russian Junior Selects and all three will be anxiously awaiting word on the National Junior Selection Camp invitations, expected to be released Wednesday morning at 11:30 a.m. CST.
Schenn was one of three Wheat Kings to attend last year's Camp but was among the final cuts.
Wednesday night is "Whopper Wednesday" and its Brandon's first of four home games in the month of December. The Wheat Kings kick off a 3-game road trip Friday night in Prince Albert, before returning home for back to back games next weekend against Kelowna and Edmonton on Friday and Saturday, December 11th and 12th.
The first 2,500 fans in attendance Wednesday night will receive a complimentary Whopper from Burger King.
Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
