Kelowna Rockets News Release
Former Kelowna Rockets defenceman Shea Weber will be inducted into the British Columbia Hockey Hall of Fame in Penticton this summer.
Joining Weber are Carey Price, Tom Kowal, Scott Bradley and 2010 Fort St. John Flyers in the 2024 Induction Class, which was announced on Thursday.
"It's really a big honour being a B.C. boy in a small town of Sicamous," said Weber. "I was lucky to play my whole minor hockey and junior career in B.C. and to get this call definitely means a lot."
Weber, 38, was listed by the Rockets after going undrafted. He joined Kelowna on a full-time basis during the 2002-03 season.
He appeared in 190 regular-season games for Kelowna, posting 91 points (26G, 65A), 388 penalty minutes and a +59 plus-minus rating. The Sicamous, BC product suited up in 54 WHL playoff games with the Rockets, where he posted 39 points (13G, 26A), 67 penalty minutes and a +21 plus-minus rating.
He was a member of the Rockets 2003 and 2004 WHL Championships as well as the 2004 Memorial Cup team.
Drafted by Nashville in the second round in 2003, Weber went on to play 16 seasons in the NHL split between the Predators and Montreal Canadiens. He was the captain for both teams.
Internationally with Canada, he won a World Junior Ice Hockey Championship gold medal in 2005, an Ice Hockey World Championships gold medal in 2007, and two Olympic gold medals at the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics.
"The B.C. hockey community has become very deep and rich so we have another wonderfully deserving class," said BC Hockey Hall of Fame chair Jim Hughson in a new press release.
"Our inductees are from Sicamous, Anahim Lake, Abbotsford, Vernon and Fort St. John. Truly a provincial group and some fantastic stories of great contributions to the game."
