(Rochester, Minn)- The Rochester Honkers continued their push for the NWL playoffs Thursday night, topping the Eau Claire Express 10-4 in Rochester. Jordan Gross (Tulane) earned the win for the Honkers, while Trent Shelton (Oregon State) was charged with the loss for Eau Claire.

Rochester second basemen Ryan Webberley (Cal Poly Pomona) was impressive at the plate, going 3-5 with four RBIs and two home runs.

Alex Schultz (Nebraska-Omaha) scored the first run of the night in the first inning, stealing second base, the advancing to third and eventually home on a pair of errors by the Express.

Eau Claire would tie it up in the third, scoring on a wild pitch from Gross, and take a 3-1 lead on a two run home run.

Ryan Webberley (Cal Poly Pomona) would hit a three-run home-run in the third to regain the lead for the Honkers, and Matt Fiedler (Minnesota) would follow that with a solo home run of his own. Ryan Summers (Louisville), who led off the inning with a single and was one of the runs driven in by Webberley, would get his second at bat of the inning, and hit a 2-RBI single for a 7-3 Rochester lead.

Webberley would lead off the fourth with his second bomb of the night to make it 8-3.

The Honkers would snag an insurance run in the seventh, when Adam Walton (Illinois) lined out to short, but the Express would commit an error attempting to pick off William Paschal (Georgia Gwinnett) at first, allowing Cole Krzmarzick (Nevada) to come in. Paschal would score on a double from Summers to stretch the lead out to 10-3.

Eau Claire would hit a solo home run in the eighth to get one back, but that's all the closer they would get, as the final would stand 10-4.

The win helped further solidify the Honkers grip on fourth place, and the final playoff spot, in the overall North Division standings, as they sit at 35-28 for the season, five games ahead of the fifth place Mankato MoonDogs.

The Honkers next home game will be Saturday, August 1st, against the Duluth Huskies at 7:05 p.m. It will be Princess/Prince Night, sponsored by Nova Academy for Cosmetology. Come dressed as a prince or princess to get free general admission.
