Kenosha Kingfish News Release
Mequon, WI - The Kingfish, in their season series finale against the Chinooks, had their six game win streak snapped in Mequon. The loss marks the first against the Chinooks this summer, and the team's first loss since the Northwoods League All-Star break.
Rico Garcia took the mound for the Kingfish and, in the first inning, struggled. A 5-run first frame put the Chinooks ahead for good, even though they would only score two more runs the rest of the way. Garcia finished with 3.2 IP, 4 H, 5 ER, 7 BB, and 2 K while taking the loss. Mario Samuel came in to relieve, pitching the next inning and a third, allowing two runs off of two hits and two walks. J.R. Holloway closed the book on the day for Kingfish pitchers and he worked three innings of scoreless baseball.
Offensively, the Kingfish could be described as slow but steady. After falling behind 5-0 after one, the Kingfish put up one run in the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and ninth innings. Mitch Gasbarro, hitting upwards of .600 in his last ten games, paced the offense again with a 3-4 performance, which included a walk. Jason Scholl was the only other Kingfish to get into the hit column multiple times as he finished the day 2-4. Zack Weigel, Jeremy Vasquez, and Alex Dunlap finish off the hit tally for the Kingfish with one apiece.
In a long game of 3 hours and 45 minutes, which featured 23 combined walks, it was the Lakeshore Chinooks who claimed victory, 7-5. The Kingfish will travel to Wausau tomorrow to take on the Wisconsin Woodchucks.
