Mallards Dealt Series-Opening Loss by Bullfrogs
July 30, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Madison Mallards News Release
Madison, Wis. - Field manager Donnie Scott and the Madison Mallards (15-11, 35-26) saw their brief two-game winning streak fall at the hands of the Green Bay Bullfrogs (15-13, 37-26) by a 10-2 mark Thursday evening at Joannes Stadium in Green Bay, Wis. Logan Regnier (Central Michigan) tabbed Ho-Chunk Gaming Madison Big Win Player of the Night honors for the Mallards, going 3-for-4 with a run scored atop Madison's order. It was his eighth three-hit game of the season.
The Mallards jumped out to an early lead in their series-opening tilt courtesy of Anthony Gonsolin's (St. Mary's College) run-producing single to score Regnier in the top of the first. The Bullfrogs answered with a run of their own in the home half of the opening frame on a Rob Paller triple to plate Logan Taylor. Green Bay tabbed its first advantage in the bottom of the third thanks to Paul Jacobson's RBI single to score Paller, running Madison's deficit to 2-1 heading into the fourth.
After a fruitless fourth inning from both clubs, the Bullfrogs ignited for a quartet of runs in the bottom of the fifth to chase Mallards starting pitcher Dalton D'Spain (Texas A&M Corpus Christi) from the contest after ceding four runs on seven hits, three walks and three strikeouts across 4.1 innings of work. Chris Tschida's (Western Illinois) sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh would prove to be the only run Madison would muster from that point forward, after which Green Bay produced another four-spot on Mallards pitching in the home half of the eighth to seal its 10-2 victory.
With the loss officially behind them, Scott and the Mallards will regroup in preparation for Friday's crucial series finale with the Bullfrogs at Joannes Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. For notes and updates leading up to and throughout Friday's contest, follow the Mallards on Twitter at @MadisonMallards or tune in to 100.5 FM ESPN Madison's comprehensive play-by-play coverage of all the action beginning at 6:45 p.m.
The Mallards will return to the Duck Pond next Saturday, August 1 against the Wisconsin Woodchucks (10-15, 22-38). Next Saturday will feature The Diamond Center Diamond Dig post-game, ice-cream scoop giveaway as well as a free Kids Clinic from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. presented by Zimbrick-Honda.
