Wausau's 14-Runs Leads to Win Over Madison

August 3, 2023 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Wausau Woodchucks News Release

MADISON, Wis. - Things did not look good right away Thursday night at Warner Park, as Madison got out to an early 6-0 lead in the first.

But that early lead was not enough to stop Wausau, as 14 unanswered runs throughout the rest of the game led to a 14-6 win.

One run in the third and two in the fourth gave Wausau (10-17/30-32) a bit of life back, as in the sixth is when the game changed for good.

Mark Shallenberger (Evansville) hit his second three-run home run in two nights, tying the game at six before four other runs would be scored in the seven-run frame.

Mike Maginnis (Georgia State) would also hit a home run, adding run number 11 to the scoreboard for the Woodchucks.

Then in the ninth is when Madison (16-13/31-31) would become deflated, as three more Wausau runs would be scored before they would shut the door in the bottom of the inning.

Key Moments:

Blaine Wahlen (Ripon (WI)) came into a rough situation in the first, with bases loaded and no outs. He would allow only one run credited to himself, get out of that inning and not allow anything else the rest of the way in five innings pitched. He would also record three strikeouts.

Up Next:

Another game at Warner Park with Madison. First pitch will be at 6:35 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4.
