Dogs Get by Tots

August 3, 2023 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Mankato MoonDogs News Release

In the last major road trip of the season the MoonDogs would look to do what they could in making the playoffs. With only 10 games left the MoonDogs will need help to make the playoffs.

Tanner Shumski would take the mound for the MoonDogs making his first start of the season. Shumski would hold up his end of the bargain keeping the Tots off the board.

Jake Duer would get the MoonDogs on the board first when the Tots would make an untimely error. Duer would also get the first hit for the MoonDogs. This would drive in another run giving the MoonDogs a 2-0 lead after the two and a half innings.

Shumski would keep the Tots off the board through his exit in the game in the fifth inning. Ian Culver would come in to close the inning and see the next 2.1 innings.

The MoonDogs would not get on the board again until Ari Armas would send Asher Bradd around with a ground rule double extending the lead the MoonDogs have.

The MoonDogs would see and explosion of runs in the eighth inning as Kai Robets would hit his second double of the night driving in a run before getting in himself later to extend the lead to six.

Grant Garza would come in in a tough situation with the bases loaded in the eighth inning with only one out. The Hot Tots would get a rare one past Garza. As a base clearing home run would pull the Tots within one. The MoonDogs would get the second out with a routine flyout before a misread in the outfield would put the tying run on third. The MoonDogs would get out of the inning holding the lead and looking for it to stay that way.

The Dogs would shut down the Tots in the ninth inning and hold onto the lead. These same two teams will face off tomorrow with a 7:05 P.M. first pitch from Corbett Field.
