Columbus Clippers News Release
Clippers centerfielder Brandon Watson is on a roll. He has a 26 game hitting streak. He has hit in 34 of his last 35 games. He broke Brian Raabe's Clippers record of 24 games. The Columbus record is 36 games by Johnny Rizzo of the Red Birds, from April 17 thru May 27, 1937. The International League record was set in 1912 by Rochester's Jack Lelivelt. Joe DiMaggio, in his first pro season, hit safely in 61 straight games for San Francisco (Pacific Coast League).
Brandon, hitting .329, is not leading the Clippers in hitting! D'Angelo Jimenez is flirting with .400 with a .389 average. (the highest Columbus batting average is Honest Eddie Murphy's .398 in 1925. The Clippers highest average is Fernando Seguignol's .341 in 2003.) Darnell McDonald is hitting a robust .346.
The Clippers return home to The Coop on Tuesday, June 5.
